Sindh announces Eid holidays on March 20-21

Published on: March 18, 2026 11:00 AM

Karachi — The Sindh government has announced public holidays for Eid ul Fitr on Friday and Saturday, March 20 and 21, 2026, according to an official notification issued by Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah.

As per the notification, all provincial government offices across Sindh will remain closed during these dates in observance of Eidul Fitr. The holiday schedule will also apply to semi-government institutions, metropolitan corporations, and local councils.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif approved a two-day Eid holiday for federal government offices. The decision was formalised through a notification issued by the Cabinet Division, confirming that offices operating on both five-day and six-day work schedules will remain closed on March 20 and 21.

The timing of the holidays effectively creates an extended break for public sector employees. With March 22 falling on Sunday and March 23 already observed as a national holiday in Pakistan, government employees are expected to enjoy a four-day weekend from Friday through Monday.

Meanwhile, the expected date for Eidul Fitr has also been highlighted by SUPARCO, which indicated that the festival is likely to fall on March 21, based on astronomical calculations. The agency noted that the Shawwal moon will be born on March 19, but the chances of sighting it that evening remain low.

SUPARCO added that the final confirmation of Eid will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which is responsible for officially announcing the start of Islamic months in the country.
