Priyanka Chopra opens up on leaving Bollywood for Hollywood

Bollywood and Hollywood star Priyanka Chopra recently reflected on the pivotal moment when she decided to leave the Indian film industry to explore opportunities abroad. In an interview on Jay Shetty’s podcast, she described feeling “boxed in” by Bollywood, citing limited work opportunities and a lack of long-term growth as key reasons behind her decision.

Priyanka revealed that experiencing six consecutive flops was a turning point in her career. “Surviving in the movie industry is tough for everyone; it is not an easy place. It is political, networky, it is about the moment, it is fleeting,” she said. She admitted feeling emotionally, mentally, and physically drained, and recognised that moving beyond Bollywood was necessary for her survival and growth.

Before her breakthrough role in the American TV series Quantico, Priyanka had begun building her music career, collaborating with international artists such as Pitbull and will.i.am. She described this period as a “breath of fresh air” and a transformative phase, which opened her eyes to the limitations she faced in Bollywood and reinforced the importance of exploring global avenues.

The actress is currently promoting her latest film The Bluff, where she portrays a fierce and determined woman. Alongside this, she is preparing for the second season of the international spy thriller Citadel and will star in the upcoming Varanasi by renowned director S. S. Rajamouli.
