Priyanka Chopra may be one of India’s biggest global stars today, but her rise in Hollywood came with unexpected challenges and moments of humility, according to her longtime manager Anjula Acharia.

Speaking on The Ok Sweetie Show, Acharia reflected on Chopra’s early years in the United States, revealing that despite her massive stardom at home, she had to reintroduce herself in Hollywood almost from scratch.
“I remember dying inside,” Acharia said, recalling the culture shock. “Imagine you are with the Beyoncé of a country and nobody else knows she is the Beyoncé — just you. And you’re walking into a magazine she’s already been on the cover of many times, and she’s introducing herself, saying, ‘You don’t know who I am, but I am Priyanka Chopra.’”

Acharia described meetings where Chopra engaged with industry assistants and junior staff without hesitation, even when the encounters felt too modest for a star of her stature. “I was suffering heartbreak for her. But she was so fabulous — she had no ego,” she added.
The manager credited Chopra for teaching her humility throughout the process. “There have been many times when I’ve said, ‘We don’t need to do that,’ and she’s been like, ‘Yeah, we do,’” Acharia said, noting that Chopra resisted the urge to bypass early networking steps.
Chopra began her Hollywood career in 2015, signing with an American talent agency and securing the lead role in ABC’s action-thriller series Quantico. Its success helped her gain a foothold in Hollywood, leading to roles in films including Baywatch, The Matrix Resurrections, The White Tiger, and Heads of State.
