Three martyred after drone strike, ambulance ambush in Karak

Published on: February 23, 2026 8:00 PM

Three Federal Constabulary personnel were martyred in a coordinated terrorist attack in Karak on Monday. The assault began with a quadcopter strike on an FC fort and escalated into an ambulance ambush. The attack underscores rising militant violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and threatens security personnel and civilians alike.

According to police, militants targeted the FC fort near Dargah Shaheedan in Bahadar Khel. The area falls under the jurisdiction of Khurram Muhammad Zai police station. Attackers used a quadcopter drone, injuring at least five FC personnel. District Police Officer Saud Khan confirmed the wounded were shifted for medical treatment. However, the situation worsened during the evacuation process.

Meanwhile, terrorists ambushed ambulances transporting the injured officials to hospital. Gunmen opened fire on the vehicles and later set them ablaze. As a result, three injured personnel succumbed to their wounds. Additionally, two Rescue 1122 workers sustained injuries in the assault. Authorities moved the remaining injured to Khalifa Gul Nawaz Hospital in Bannu.

Subsequently, security forces launched a search and clearance operation in the locality. Officials stated that forces cleared the immediate area after the attack. Investigations remain ongoing to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. Authorities have increased patrols to prevent further incidents.

The attack comes amid a surge in militant violence across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. The Centre for Research and Security Studies reported fatalities in KP rose from 1,620 in 2024 to 2,331 in 2025. Officials have repeatedly urged action against militant groups operating across the border. Tensions between Islamabad and Kabul remain strained after repeated cross-border incidents.
