Alvi’s resignation comes months after a controversial ruling by the provincial ombudsman for protection against harassment of women. In July 2025, the ombudsman ordered his removal from office after finding him guilty of harassing a former chief marketing and communication officer of K-Electric. The ruling also directed Alvi to pay Rs2.5 million in compensation to the complainant.
Following the ombudsman’s decision, Alvi challenged the order in the Sindh High Court (SHC). The court suspended the implementation of the ombudsman’s ruling and later extended the stay during a subsequent hearing in August 2025. As a result, Alvi continued to serve as KE’s chief executive while legal proceedings remained pending.
K-Electric has not issued a detailed public statement explaining the reasons behind Alvi’s resignation, nor has it announced an immediate successor. The power utility, which serves millions of consumers in Karachi and surrounding areas, plays a critical role in Pakistan’s energy sector, making leadership changes closely watched by regulators, investors, and consumers alike.

The resignation marks a significant moment for K-Electric as it navigates ongoing legal scrutiny, corporate governance challenges, and operational demands in a complex power distribution environment. Further developments regarding the company’s leadership and the status of the legal case are expected in the coming weeks.
