
Punjab is set to experience widespread rain and snowfall as a westerly weather system enters the province from January 16, ending the prolonged dry spell and affecting most districts over the coming days.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and Meteorological Department confirmed that the system will remain active until January 19, bringing intermittent rainfall and snowfall, especially in hilly areas such as Murree, Galiyat, and surrounding tourist destinations.

Rainfall is expected in major cities including Lahore, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Sahiwal, Multan, Faisalabad, and divisions such as Dera Ghazi Khan and Bahawalpur between January 20 and 23, providing relief from dry conditions but possibly disrupting daily routines.
Heavy snowfall and rain in Murree and the Galiyat region are likely to cause road blockages and travel challenges, prompting PDMA officials to issue alerts to all district administrations and relevant authorities for preparedness.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia urged citizens and tourists to take precautionary measures, avoid unnecessary travel, and strictly follow official instructions to minimize risks and ensure safety during the upcoming weather events.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department said northern areas including Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will also receive rain and snowfall, while districts in Balochistan are likely to experience similar weather from January 21 to 23.
