Spotify raises US subscription price to $12.99

Published on: January 16, 2026 2:27 PM

Spotify has announced its third price increase in three years for subscription plans in the United States, raising the monthly fee from $11.99 to $12.99. The company sent an email notification to its paid users, confirming that the new rate will apply starting with their next billing cycle.

According to Spotify, these periodic pricing adjustments reflect the value the platform delivers, helping the company maintain a high-quality experience for listeners while benefiting artists. A blog post by the streaming service emphasized that occasional price updates are necessary to continue offering features and services that users expect.

This price increase follows similar moves in other markets, including the UK and Switzerland last year. Analysts had anticipated a US hike, with the Financial Times reporting in November 2025 that Spotify planned to adjust prices in the first quarter of 2026.

The US subscription increase is expected to significantly boost Spotify’s revenue, with JPMorgan analysts projecting a potential $500 million rise. This comes on top of prior adjustments, including a jump from $9.99 to $10.99 in 2023 and another $1 increase in June 2024 for the individual plan.

Spotify’s global footprint continues to grow, with over 281 million paid users worldwide as of Q3 2025, 25% of whom are in North America. In addition to the US, Spotify is also raising prices in Estonia and Latvia, aligning with its broader strategy of reflecting local market conditions and sustaining service quality.

While the price hikes have prompted mixed reactions from users, the company emphasizes its commitment to providing enhanced experiences and supporting creators, ensuring that listeners continue to access one of the world’s leading audio platforms.
