KHYBER/PESHAWAR: Five people lost their lives and 16 others were injured in separate road accidents in Khyber and Peshawar over the weekend, police and Rescue 1122 officials reported on Sunday. The incidents highlighted the dangers of over-speeding and harsh winter conditions in the region.

In Jamrud, four youth, including two brothers, were killed when their car collided with a dumper truck around midnight on Saturday. The victims—Zarar, Suhail, Daud, and Mansoor—died on the spot, while Nauman, who was critically injured, was shifted to the intensive care unit of Hayatabad Medical Complex in Peshawar. The group had been returning home after attending a feast for a friend who recently got married, while the newlywed traveled in a separate vehicle behind them.
Meanwhile, an infant died due to extreme cold while the family was traveling from Tirah Valley to Bara. The family was reportedly stranded overnight on the road near Paindi Cheena due to congestion at a registration point. Authorities noted that exposure to the severe winter temperatures was fatal for the child.
In Peshawar, a collision between two passenger vehicles in Badhber claimed the life of one person and left 15 others, including children, injured. Rescue 1122 dispatched six teams, including ambulances and disaster response units, to the site. The injured and the deceased were transported to Naseerullah Babar Hospital and Lady Reading Hospital.

Adding to the traffic woes, Kohat Road in Peshawar remained blocked for several hours after a hay-loaded truck overturned in the early hours of Sunday. The police managed to clear the road by evening, restoring normal traffic flow.
Officials have urged drivers to follow speed limits, take precautions during extreme weather, and remain vigilant to prevent further accidents.
