KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Wednesday approved the Karachi Transformation Plan in partnership with the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), aiming for “world-class development” in the city. The plan includes large-scale infrastructure, connectivity projects, and urban mobility initiatives to address chronic traffic congestion and improve civic facilities.

During a joint meeting at CM House, the chief minister identified six priority projects worth Rs10.72 billion for immediate execution. These include the rehabilitation of the road from M-9 Motorway to Malir-15 via Jinnah Avenue and Sharea Faisal, construction of a right-turn underpass at Malir Halt, and a flyover from Airport Road to Star Gate on Sharea Faisal.

Other schemes involve the rehabilitation of the Y-Junction to Machli Chowk road and the construction of a flyover at Sohrab Goth, Karachi’s main intercity gateway. The CM emphasised the need for high-quality planning, transparent execution, and world-class design standards to make Karachi’s development comparable with global cities.
A one-time grant-in-aid of Rs84.796 billion has been proposed for 523 schemes across the metropolis, including road repairs, traffic management improvements, flyovers, parks, and beautification of major roads. Additionally, Rs26.282 billion under the Federal PSDP has been approved for Karachi-related projects.

Mayor Murtaza Wahab and LG Minister Syed Nasir Shah highlighted that the schemes were selected through field verification, departmental assessments, and stakeholder consultations to ease traffic, improve airport and industrial connectivity, and enhance civic infrastructure. The FWO, Local Government, and KMC will collaborate to finalise designs and utility shifts by February, with project execution set to begin in March.
The CM reiterated the Sindh government’s commitment to sustainable and efficiently executed development projects, aiming to transform Karachi into a modern, well-planned, and resilient urban centre.
