Bhansali delays Love and War, first look expected soon

Published on: December 30, 2025 3:53 PM

Renowned Indian filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali is poised to generate major excitement with his upcoming directorial Love and War, which brings together Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal on screen for the first time.

The film, regarded as one of the most ambitious casting combinations in recent Hindi cinema, went on floors in November 2024 and was initially slated for a December 2025 release. However, repeated production delays have pushed the project beyond its original timeline, prompting the makers to revise both the shooting schedule and release plans.

According to industry sources, Bhansali has now extended the shoot of Love and War until May 2026. As a result, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal have reportedly blocked their calendars until then, with several of their prior commitments being postponed due to the increased number of shooting days.

The film was later announced for an Eid 2026 release, but that target now appears unlikely to be met. Reports suggest that Bhansali is exploring a new release window in August or September 2026. A final decision on the release date is expected soon, with an official announcement anticipated in January.

Earlier reports had indicated that Ranbir Kapoor had suggested a June 2026 release, but ongoing delays have rendered that plan unfeasible. The extended production timeline has reportedly led to an increase in the film’s overall budget, adding further pressure to finalise a viable release strategy.

The delay has also impacted other projects linked to the cast. Members of the Ramayana production team were reportedly hoping for a six-month gap between Love and War and their own project, an expectation that may now be difficult to meet.

Despite the setbacks, anticipation around Love and War remains high. Buzz suggests that the makers will unveil the first official look of the film alongside the announcement of its release date, further fuelling excitement among fans and industry watchers alike.
