Pakistan backs Saudi Arabia efforts for peace in Yemen

Published on: December 27, 2025 11:51 AM

Pakistan on Saturday expressed full support for the diplomatic efforts being undertaken by Saudi Arabia to promote peace and stability in Yemen, reiterating its commitment to a negotiated political settlement amid renewed tensions in the country.

In a statement issued late Friday, the Foreign Office (FO) said Pakistan was closely monitoring recent developments in Yemen and welcomed the role being played by regional partners to de-escalate the situation. It said Islamabad fully supported Saudi Arabia’s initiatives aimed at ensuring peace and stability in the war-torn country.

“Pakistan expresses its full support for the diplomatic efforts being undertaken by the kingdom of Saudi Arabia for ensuring peace and stability in the Republic of Yemen. We also commend the efforts of the United Arab Emirates in this regard,” the FO statement said.

The FO underscored the importance of preserving Yemen’s unity and territorial integrity, warning against unilateral actions that could further inflame tensions. It urged Yemeni stakeholders to avoid steps that might lead to escalation and instead engage constructively in dialogue.

Calling for an inclusive political process, Pakistan encouraged all Yemeni parties to participate in good faith negotiations based on agreed parameters. The FO said such engagement was essential to achieving a sustainable and peaceful resolution to the conflict, which has caused immense humanitarian suffering over the past decade.

“Pakistan expresses its hope that the ongoing diplomatic efforts will result in concrete steps towards achieving lasting peace in the country, and in bringing an end to the suffering of the Yemeni people,” the statement added.

The remarks come against the backdrop of renewed political instability in Yemen after the Southern Transitional Council (STC), the main southern separatist group, earlier this month pushed the Saudi-backed, internationally recognised government out of its headquarters in Aden and claimed expanded control across southern regions.

On Friday, the United Arab Emirates’ foreign ministry welcomed Saudi Arabia’s efforts to support security and stability in Yemen, while reaffirming its own commitment to regional peace. Saudi Arabia has also urged Yemeni separatists to withdraw from recently seized areas, stressing the need to de-escalate tensions within the government camp.
