Published on: December 17, 2025 4:30 PM

The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has approached the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) seeking a reduction in electricity tariffs under the monthly fuel adjustment for November. If approved, consumers may receive relief of 72 paisa per unit in their power bills.

According to CPPA, NEPRA is scheduled to hear the petition on December 31. The proposed reduction is based on the cost of electricity generation and supply during the month of November.

CPPA stated that a total of 7.81 billion units of electricity were supplied to distribution companies (DISCOs) across the country during the month. The reported average cost of electricity generation stood at Rs6.16 per unit.

Electricity generation during November relied on a diverse energy mix. Hydropower remained the largest contributor, accounting for 39.16 percent of total generation, reflecting increased water availability.

Local coal contributed 9.34 percent, while imported coal accounted for 5.06 percent of electricity generation. Natural gas made up 8.44 percent, and imported liquefied natural gas (LNG) contributed 8.64 percent to the overall supply.

Nuclear energy also played a significant role, contributing 25.23 percent of total electricity generation in November. Energy experts note that a higher share of relatively cheaper sources can help lower overall generation costs.

If NEPRA approves the CPPA request, electricity consumers across Pakistan are expected to benefit from a reduction of 72 paisa per unit, providing some relief amid rising energy costs.
