NEPRA had earlier issued show-cause notices and conducted formal hearings, during which the companies failed to convince the authority of adequate preventive and corrective measures. The regulatory body emphasized that timely implementation of safety protocols could have averted the fatalities.
In addition to the fines, NEPRA announced relief for consumers on the Central Power Purchasing Agency–Guaranteed (CPPA-G) petition for the monthly Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA) for September 2025. Consumers will receive a Rs0.4812 per kilowatt-hour reduction, reflected in November 2025 electricity bills.
The FCA adjustment will also apply to K-Electric customers under the tariff rationalization mechanism, as approved by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) in August 2025.
