
Customs Enforcement in Karachi recovered 564 smuggled mobile phones valued at Rs 96 million from a modified Toyota Prado, which had been specially engineered to conceal the contraband.
Officials from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) intercepted the Prado after noticing irregular welding marks on the bonnet, bumper, and side fender, prompting a detailed technical inspection of the vehicle.

The investigation uncovered five hidden compartments designed for smuggling high-value goods. Phones recovered included popular models from Google Pixel and Motorola, highlighting the sophistication of the operation.
A forensic audit confirmed that the Prado had not paid import duties, strengthening the legal case under the Customs Act 1969. Authorities registered an FIR to launch a formal investigation into the network behind the smuggling.

Customs officials expect further arrests and additional seizures as the probe continues. The operation is part of broader efforts to curb organized smuggling and protect local markets from illegal imports.
