
ByteDance is set to launch a new AI voice assistant for smartphones, aiming to compete with Chinese tech giants like Huawei and Xiaomi. The assistant, powered by ByteDance’s Doubao large language model, enables users to perform tasks such as finding content and booking tickets using voice commands.
ZTE’s Nubia M153 will be the first phone to feature ByteDance’s AI tool. The prototype, priced at 3,499 yuan (£495), is available for pre-order in limited quantities. This launch marks a significant step in expanding AI integration in Chinese smartphones.

The AI voice assistant will rival similar tools offered by other Chinese manufacturers. Meanwhile, Apple is preparing to launch Apple Intelligence in China, collaborating with Alibaba to introduce AI features on iPhones for local users, increasing competition in the market.
Following the announcement, ZTE shares surged 10% on Monday, reaching their highest level since October 29. Investors were optimistic due to the upcoming Nubia phone launch and ZTE’s recent contracts to supply 5G equipment in Vietnam.
