The United Nations has raised serious concerns over human rights violations in Indian-administered Kashmir after the Pahalgam incident. Reports indicate abuse, suspicious deaths, and mistreatment during detentions. The UN urged India to conduct independent investigations and ensure accountability immediately.
Officials said nearly 2,800 people, including journalists and human rights defenders, were detained during large-scale operations. Detainees allegedly faced violence, while lawyers and family members were denied access, the UN noted. These measures heightened fears among local communities and civil society groups.

The UN condemned discrimination against Kashmiri and Muslim populations, communication blackouts, and restrictions on press freedom. It emphasized that counterterrorism actions must respect international human rights laws and democratic norms.
Moreover, the UN highlighted harassment of students, incitement of violence against Muslims, and blocking of more than 8,000 social media accounts. Reports also confirmed that thousands of homes, mosques, and businesses in Gujarat and Assam were damaged. These actions increased tensions across the region.
