Users can view this information through the “about this account” option in any profile. The feature quickly exposed that several high-engagement Trump-supporting accounts are not based in the United States.
One major account, @TRUMP_ARMY_, recently promoted by Donald Trump on Truth Social, turned out to be based in India. It has over half a million followers and has changed its username four times since 2022. Many similar accounts had long claimed to be American, but the X location tool shows otherwise. This discovery has raised questions about online influence networks.

Another large Trump-related profile, @IvankaNews_, promotes Trump and the MAGA movement daily. It previously claimed to have voted in the 2024 election. Yet X data shows the account actually operates from Nigeria and has changed its username 11 times since 2010. These findings highlight how foreign-run accounts can mask their identity while shaping political conversations.
The X location feature also exposed accounts pushing Scottish independence while pretending to be in Scotland. BBC Verify found that some profiles posting nationalist messages were accessing X from Iran. One claimed to be from Dundee and another from Glasgow, but X traced them to the Netherlands with connections through Iran. These accounts changed their displayed location after the revelations.
