
PESHAWAR – An officer was martyred and two others injured in an explosion at the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) police station in Peshawar on Sunday, which officials said resulted from a short circuit.
According to police, a section of the building was damaged by the blast. Peshawar Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Dr Saeed confirmed that the explosion occurred when a short circuit ignited explosives stored inside the facility, dismissing rumours of a terror attack.

He added that three CTD personnel were present in the building at the time — one lost his life, while two others sustained injuries. Four accused held in the lock-up were safely evacuated following the incident.
A special CTD investigation team has arrived at the site to collect forensic evidence and determine the exact cause of the explosion. The Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) and CTD teams recovered materials from the debris, while CCTV footage from nearby areas is being reviewed.

Police have also begun recording statements from officers who were inside the station during the incident as investigations continue.
