After widespread criticism over the controversial storyline of Main Manto Nahi Hoon, several universities in Lahore have imposed an official ban on drama shoots within their campuses. The decision follows strong public outrage against the show’s depiction of a student-teacher relationship, which many viewers deemed inappropriate and disrespectful. Educational institutions have reportedly decided to distance themselves from media productions that could negatively affect their image or compromise academic integrity.
Veteran actress Atiqa Odho recently revealed that she learned about the ban during her visit to Lahore for an event. She said university officials were alarmed by the backlash faced by the institution featured in the drama. “Schools have decided not to offer their campuses for future shoots after the reaction to Main Manto Nahi Hoon, which showed disgraceful content,” Odho explained. Her remarks have further intensified the debate around how responsibly entertainment producers handle sensitive social themes.

University administrations are now planning to introduce stricter protocols before granting permission for filming on campus. Odho mentioned that schools might soon require complete access to scripts before approving any shoot. This step aims to ensure that fictional portrayals do not misrepresent educational spaces or damage their reputation. The new measures also reflect growing awareness among institutions about the potential impact of media narratives on public perception and youth behaviour.
The decision sparked strong reactions on social media, where many users supported the ban as a “dignified step” toward maintaining moral and academic standards. Several commenters argued that universities are meant for learning, not for dramatizing romantic or controversial storylines. One user wrote that the idea of a professor marrying a student was “ridiculous and unrealistic,” while others expressed pride in schools for protecting their ethical boundaries and preserving institutional respect.

However, some viewers countered that dramas should not completely avoid controversial subjects since such issues do exist in society. They argued that instead of banning portrayals, producers should depict them with sensitivity and responsibility. Despite differing opinions, the majority agreed that creative freedom must come with accountability, particularly when real educational institutions serve as filming locations. The controversy around Main Manto Nahi Hoon has reignited discussions on where to draw the line between storytelling and social responsibility in Pakistani entertainment.
