KARACHI: Police said on Thursday that the death of a minor child in a firing incident near Gulshan-e-Maymar Mor took a new turn after investigations revealed it was caused by accidental firing rather than a robbery attempt, ARY News reported.
According to police, one child died while another was injured when a citizen, identified as Arif Shah, opened fire from inside his car. Shah has been arrested.
Initially, Shah told police that suspected robbers had approached him while he was parked with his child. He claimed to have fired at the suspects in self-defence, which led to bullets striking his own four-year-old son, Yasin Shah, as well as a passerby child. However, investigators said no evidence of robbery or large sums of money was found in the car.

Police officials added that another accomplice of Shah was also present in the vehicle and that Shah had misled them during the initial questioning. The District East Police said that evidence suggests the shots were fired from inside the car, contradicting Shah’s earlier statement.
Authorities confirmed that CCTV footage, technical assistance, and forensic evidence are being collected to establish the exact sequence of events. The investigation is still underway.
