EU Chief welcomes Trump’s Gaza peace plan, urges all sides to act

Published on: September 30, 2025 3:19 PM

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has voiced support for Donald Trump’s proposed peace plan to end the war in Gaza. She welcomed Trump’s commitment to help stop nearly two years of fighting. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), she called on all parties to seize the opportunity for peace. She also said the European Union is ready to support the peace process in any way possible.

Von der Leyen emphasized the urgent need to stop the violence in Gaza. She said hostilities should end immediately. She also demanded the release of all hostages and quick delivery of humanitarian aid to civilians. Her comments come as global pressure builds to resolve the Gaza crisis. The EU has long pushed for diplomatic solutions and humanitarian access.

The U.S.-sponsored peace plan was announced in Washington by former President Trump. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has agreed to the proposal. The deal includes a ceasefire, prisoner exchanges, Israeli withdrawal in phases, and Hamas disarmament. However, Hamas has not yet accepted or rejected the plan. Its response will be critical to the plan’s future.

Several world leaders and Muslim-majority countries have already backed the proposal. Nations like Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Pakistan, and Qatar have voiced support. They praised the deal’s focus on ending violence, rebuilding Gaza, and preventing forced displacement. The plan has also been welcomed for including international oversight and a transitional government in Gaza.

With strong backing from both the U.S. and EU, the peace plan is gaining momentum. But challenges remain, especially with Hamas still undecided. Von der Leyen’s statement adds further international weight to the proposal. The world now watches to see whether all sides will take this chance to end the conflict for good.
