Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are stepping out for a cause. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a surprise appearance at the One805LIVE! concert, held at Kevin Costner’s California estate, on Sept. 20 for the third year in a row.
For the event, which raises money for essential equipment and wellness programs for Santa Barbara County’s first responders, Meghan donned a navy button-down dress, tan heels and gold jewelry. Meanwhile, Harry sported a classic navy button-down paired with a blazer and a pair of dark jeans.
The couple’s recent outing marks their public appearance since Harry reunited with his father King Charles III at Clarence House, the King’s London residence, for the first time in 19 months.
During their royal reunion on Sept. 10, the pair enjoyed a private tea together before Harry continued on for an event for his Invictus Games Foundation, where he said of his father, “Yes, he’s great, thank you.”
Days later, the 41-year-old made it clear that he’s prioritizing mending his relationship with his dad, whose cancer diagnosis was announced in February 2024, amid their ongoing rift. As Harry told The Guardian in a recent interview, “The focus really has to be on my dad.” Even months before their reunion, Harry expressed hope that he and Charles could get past the years of estrangement over his and Meghan’s battle to restore security protection in the U.K.
“There have been so many disagreements, differences between me and some of my family,” Harry told BBC in May. “This current situation that has been on our ongoing for five years with regard to human life and safety is the sticking point. It is the only thing that’s left.”
Making matters even worse, Harry pointed out that his father has the power to alleviate some of his and Meghan’s safety concerns for their family, which includes kids Archie, 6, and Lilibet, 4. “There is a lot of control and ability in my father’s hands,” Harry explained. “Ultimately, this whole thing could be resolved through him, not necessarily by intervening, but by stepping aside, allowing the experts to do what is necessary.
