Deputy Commissioner Syed Munawar Abbas Bukhari inaugurated a dedicated “Ladies Block” at Pak Tea House Kot Addu on Thursday, announcing that every Friday will be reserved exclusively for women.
Prominent writers, poets, educationists and women from various walks of life attended the event. Speaking at the ceremony, the Deputy Commissioner said the initiative is a revolutionary step in promoting literary and intellectual engagement for women in a respectful and inclusive environment.
“Until women and men contribute equally to literature, the mirror of society remains incomplete,” he said, citing the contributions of Quratul Ain Haider, Parveen Shakir, Fehmida Riaz, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Saadat Hasan Manto, and Josh Malihabadi.
He urged schools and colleges to organise student visits to the Tea House to nurture reading habits and literary interests among the youth. “A house without a book becomes a graveyard,” he remarked, encouraging friendship with literature for the growth of a civilised and conscious society.
The event concluded with prayers for the success of the Women’s Block as a milestone for creativity. Guests were served tea and snacks.
Notables in attendance included Assistant Commissioner Roman Khalil, CEO Education Dr Mah Jabin, Punjab College Principal Alia Qureshi, Pecta Principal Samina Bashar, Assistant Director Colleges Ms Kubra, and renowned poets Qasim Raz and Nadeem Rehman Malik.
