Wimbledon shock: Sinner ousts Djokovic in dominant display

Published on: July 12, 2025 12:29 AM

Italy’s rising tennis star Jannik Sinner pulled off a major upset on Friday by defeating Novak Djokovic in the second men’s semi-final at Wimbledon 2025. The 22-year-old Italian outclassed the seven-time Wimbledon champion in straight sets, winning 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 in front of a packed Centre Court.

Sinner showed incredible composure and aggressive play from the start. He broke Djokovic’s serve early in each set and maintained the momentum, keeping the Serbian legend under pressure. Djokovic, 37, appeared off rhythm and struggled to respond to Sinner’s deep groundstrokes and pinpoint accuracy.

This is Sinner’s first Grand Slam final appearance, making him only the second Italian man in history to reach the Wimbledon final. His performance was clinical, serving well and winning over 80% of his first-serve points, which proved crucial against a usually unshakeable Djokovic.

With this win, Sinner will now face Carlos Alcaraz of Spain in the Wimbledon 2025 final on Sunday. Alcaraz, the defending champion, booked his place after a hard-fought victory over American Taylor Fritz in the first semi-final. The final promises to be a battle of the new generation — young, fierce, and supremely talented.

Sinner’s victory marks a symbolic shift in men’s tennis as younger players continue to challenge the dominance of legends like Djokovic. With Alcaraz on the other side, Sunday’s final could define the future of the sport.
