Today, June 21, is the longest day and shortest night of the year 2025, say astronomers. Daylight will last 13 hours and 41 minutes, while night will be only 10 hours and 19 minutes long. This marks the peak of summer in the Northern Hemisphere.
Astrophysicist Dr. Muhammad Javed Iqbal explained that after July 1, daylight hours will slowly decrease. By September 22, day and night will be nearly equal. This happens due to Earth’s tilt and orbit around the Sun.
During summer, the Sun leans toward the Northern Hemisphere, causing longer days and shorter nights. In contrast, during winter, the Sun tilts toward the Southern Hemisphere, making days shorter in northern regions.
Weather-wise, Karachi experienced a light morning drizzle, making the day pleasant with cloudy skies expected. Lahore saw overcast skies and cool breezes, providing relief from the heat. Late-night showers also cooled Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and nearby areas.
The Meteorological Department forecasted rain in many regions over the next 24 hours. Areas like Lahore, Sargodha, Faisalabad, and Kashmir can expect rain, with thunderstorms likely in Gilgit-Baltistan.
