Sir: The recent statement by Afghan President Ashraf Ghani against Pakistan has once again taken Pak-Afghan relations to the lowest ebb. It shows the magnitude of the trust deficit between both the neighbouring states. After the assumption of office by President Ghani in Afghanistan, it was thought that ties between both the countries were going towards normalisation. Both the neighbours are bearing the brunt of terrorism and Pakistan is heavily involved in a war against extremists and terrorists. If Afghanistan is suffering from the menace, then it should be kept in mind that Pakistan also paid a heavy price by losing thousands of its civilians and army personnel in the fight against terrorism. Afghanistan should not detach from Pakistan at this critical juncture, when the peace talks are in process. The security and peace of both the countries is interlinked.
