ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Wednesday invited Hurriyat leaders from Indian-held Kashmir (IHK) for a meeting ahead of national security advisor-level talks with India. This in a way is a move that risks further straining efforts to restart a peace dialogue between the nuclear-armed nations. Pakistan enthusiast Syed Ali Shah Geelani is among the leaders invited to the Pakistan High Commission on August 23, the day talks between the security officials are due to start, said a spokesman for the Hurriyet. The NSA-level talks are to be held on August 23-24 in Indian capital New Delhi. All Parties Hurriyat Conference Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said all stakeholders must be taken along in the dialogue process.
“I believe in not making an issue of this matter. Our meeting is being held before or after, I do not think there would be much of difference. The real matter is with what intentions are we going. Our intention is that there is no other way between India and Pakistan but to hold talks and dialogues,” said Farooq in Srinagar. Hurriyat has been campaigning for three-way talks to resolve the vexed dispute of Kashmir, involving India, Pakistan and representatives of Kashmir.
