Sir: Pakistan is notorious for many things, but in the last 20 years, drug production and addiction have increasingly become just one of them. There are many other problems such as poverty, illiteracy and lack of basic healthcare. But drug abuse is rapidly growing in Pakistan. Pakistan is the worst victim of the drug trade in South Asia. But Pakistan is not alone in fighting this disease. This problem is directly destroying our youth and as well as our nation. Drug addiction is a problem for teenagers as well as adults. Smoking and drinking are often seen as a ‘cool’ or adult thing to do but there is a need to educate young people about the dangers of these evils. It is the responsibility of the government to take steps for the eradication of this problem. There should be tough penalties against all those making profits from the drugs trade.
