If you were to choose between these two professions, barber and driver, what would your answer be? Trust me! I would have said no if I was given a choice between the two. But what if you were told that one day you would be driving your own Rolls Royce?
Meet Ramesh Babu from Bangalore, Karnataka (by the way he is the one with the Rolls Royce). This billionaire barber also runs a successful car rental service. He owns more than 378 cars, from BMW’s to Audi’s. You’ve got to be kidding me!
Ramesh started as boy running errands when he was 14, and joined his family’s barber shop at 18. In 1993, he bought his first car, a Maruti Omni, on loan. Unable to repay the installments, his aunt suggested renting out the car. And that’s where his entrepreneurial journey began.
He has received several business awards and has been featured in the “Small Big Bang”, a book authored by 26 students of the Indian Institute of Management, which features success stories of various entrepreneurs.
Ramesh still considers the hair salon to be his bread and butter. He cuts hair for his old customers for just Rs 65. Although cars are his passion, he will continue to cut hair as long as his hands are healthy.
