LAHORE: Vice chancellors and students of Balochistan universities have tendered an appeal to the prime minister and Punjab chief minister for allocating appropriate money to bear expenses of Baloch students for their education in other provinces. A delegation of position holders and vice chancellors of different universities of Balochistan visited Punjab University where they were honoured in a ceremony organised on Thursday at the Punjab University New Campus. PU Vice Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran, Balochistan vice chancellors, PU officials and faculty members were present on the occasion. Punjab University VC Dr Mujahid Kamran said that creating inter-provincial harmony is not a difficult task and promotion of bilateral relations among the youth of the provinces is one of the best ways to promote inter-provincial harmony. Kamran said that Balochistan had been neglected in the past, adding that the secret of development was in knowledge of the nature, and the nations that did not prioritise education, faced grave punishments. He said that PU was providing Rs 3,000 monthly scholarship to 239 students from Balochistan and free education and boarding facilities were also being provided to the Baloch students. Addressing the ceremony, Balochistan University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Javed Iqbal said that anti-state enemies had taken control of Balochistan University as they did before the Dhaka Fall and controlled Dhaka University. He said that the enrollment of students had also reduced and the university was almost closed before his appointment in December 2013. However, he added, now the situation had changed and there had been many amendments in the education system of the province. “Now every ceremony begins with the national anthem and the people of Balochistan celebrated Pakistan Day more than the people of Punjab,” he added. He thanked former southern command commander Lt Gen (r) Nasir Janjua, present Commander Lt Gen (r) Aamir Riaz and Balochistan Chief Minister Sanaullah Zahri for improving the overall situation in Balochistan. “We are also thankful to Balochistan Youth Affairs Department and Devote Balochistan’s Chairperson Salma Muhammad Hasni in this campaign. Earlier, a panel discussion was held on the topic of role of exchange programmes among universities to promote inter-provincial harmony, in which it was resolved that the country must promote relations among the students of all provinces.
