ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz led federal government has ignored child health-care in the upcoming budget of fiscal year 2016-17 as it has allocated no funds for the health of adolescent of the capital, it has been revealed in a document available with Daily Times. The government would start three new projects in the health sector in the federal capital Islamabad in the next financial year including establishment of center for Haematology Disorders at PIMS, extension of Federal Government Services Hospital (Polyclinic Hospital) and establishment of unit for shredding, sterilization and disposal of medical waste at PIMS Islamabad. Federal Government is so callous in its attitude toward children and did not fulfil its earlier pledge made with the people of the capital that special medical facilities would be provided to their young children. Health facilities for the children in the capital are missing in the capital hospitals including Polyclinic and PIMS. Owing to lack of medical facilities in the Children’s Hospital, the children are dying, a senior medical officer told Daily Times. While establishing his arguments by giving the statistic, he said that in public sector hospitals have only 20 beds in Isolation wards for sick children of the city where more than two million people are its inhabitants. The government floating an idea among the local inhabitants that during the coming budget sufficient funds would be allocated for the children health care facilities but the documents show it a false claim. The health and CADD ministries also dispatched summaries to Finance Ministry seeking funds for establishing health care facilities for local adolescents. A senior medical officer told this scribe that there are only 15 beds for children in Isolation ward of PIMS and 5 beds are available for children in Policlinic isolation wards. The people from AJK and KP areas adjacent to capital brought their ill children to Islamabad but they suffered untold embarrassment when their children are not treated due to lack of medical facilities. The sources told this scribe that the medical personal deployed at hospitals took advantage of the insufficient medical facilities and they demand bribe from the parents for admitting their ill children. The people are compelled to grease the palms of medical person for the treatment of their children but the government seems taking no solid act to steer the people from this agony. The sources also said that private medical hospital have been minting huge sum of money by taking advantage of lack of medical facilities in government run hospitals. Local MNA Asad Umer told this scribe that government should allocated sufficient funds for the construction of medical facilities for the children. The basic responsibility of the state is to provide medical and education facilities to its people but the incumbent regime is spending huge public fund on motorway and Metro and orange train projects, PTI leaders said No one can deny the significant of these project but such projects could be built on the cost of public health, he remarked. Vice Chancellor SZBM University Prof Muhammad Akram told Daily Times that more than three hospitals are needed to address the public health issue of Islamabad. He said the population of the capital is growing rapidly but the medical facilities to them are not being provided as new hospital in public sector has been constructed. He told that government should allocate sufficient funds to meet the children health care issue on priority.
