Police campaign for arresting POs flops miserably

Published on: June 11, 2016 12:15 AM

ISLAMABAD: The campaign launched by federal police for arresting proclaimed offenders in federal capital has fizzled out badly amid the reports that police have failed to nab even 1/4th of total proclaimed offenders during four months.

Federal police had launched campaign for apprehending proclaimed offenders since last 4 months in federal capital which has flopped miserably.

List of 5188 proclaimed offenders was issued and only 1233 among them have been arrested so far. The police personnel have started harassing the family members of the proclaimed offenders after having met failure in the campaign. Police personnel threat the family members that if the accused persons did not court arrest then their family members will be nabbed or cases will be registered against them.

IG Islamabad, Tariq Masood Yasin has expressed grave concern over failure of police in arresting proclaimed offenders in a meeting of police officers. He directed them to achieve the target of apprehending proclaimed offenders. He also directed Station House Officer (SHO) of every police station to file weekly report on how many proclaimed offenders have been arrested during 7 days.

Taking into account the weekly reports of police stations, IG Islamabad has issued orders for appointment of SHOs. He also issued transfer orders of SHOs who have failed in achieving targets of arresting proclaimed offenders.

IG Police Islamabad Tariq Masood Yasin soon after assuming his office 4 months back tasked the police with arresting the proclaimed offenders as soon as possible besides filing its report.

The police offices showed sheer negligence in making this campaign a success and failed to arrest even one fourth of proclaimed offenders during 4 months. IG could not give satisfactory reply to interior ministry with reference to this task.

Taking strong notice of the slackness and negligence of police officers, IG Police has directed police officers to file weekly progress report about arrest of proclaimed offenders.

He also directed police not to harass and black mail the family members of proclaimed offenders. Police should apprehend proclaimed offenders only, he ordered. He warned that if any such report is received then stern action will be taken against police officers found involved in harassing the family members. IG Islamabad has taken action against some police officers for taking bribery and showing poor performance.

The SHOs of all police stations have started taking stern steps for nabbing proclaimed offenders in order to improve their performance.
