ISLAMABAD: Important documents required by NAB relating to corruption worth billions of rupees have disappeared in an alleged connivance with the high-ups of the Workers Welfare Funds (WWF). According to information, mega corruption worth billions of rupees had been discovered in the WWF and the National Accountably Bureau (NAB) had launched regular investigations against the organisation. The sources revealed that no one was keen to take the charge of this organisation especially when NAB had tightened the grip against the former secretary Iftikhar Raheem. The top seat of this organisation was vacant for almost one year after which the new secretary took charge but he did not take measures against the corrupt elements within the departments. The creditable sources have disclosed that the documents deliberately removed from the records are urgently required by NAB. In order to remove these important documents from the record the office remained open on May 14, which was a holiday, without the approval of the high-ups. According to the record of the CCTV the appointed directors of the Workers Welfare Funds including directors’ education and IT Masood Raza had asked the superintendent Haji Aziz that they had some friends with them and had the office opened. According to available records of the CCTV footage and the gate entry former secretary Workers Welfare Funds Peshawar Tariq Awan, Deputy Director Legal Faisal, Shehzar were along with Masood Raza. They alleged removed the important documents of mega corruption from the record on that day, the sources added. The former secretary Welfare funds Tariq Awan had committed corruption worth billions of rupees in the department and faced prison because of his wrong doings. The documents were deliberately removed from the records which were urgently required by NAB and the case was under investigation by the Additional Director NAB Peshawar Khawar Ilhas. A responsible officer has disclosed that a cold war has started between the officers of the Workers Welfare Funds because of the wrong doings of some officers of the departments. The officer was of the view that not only was the office illegally opened on a holiday by the said corrupt group but the generator was also used for hours. The top officials first attempted to close this case, but after the failure in this attempt they put this case under the carpet after preparing its SOP. According to information, the deputation officials from other departments have not only affected the seniority of the permanent officials but their rights also. “There is a dire need to conduct a special audit of the marriage grants and the death grants along with a bogus bill in the name of education”, the official suggested. He further said that the secretary ministry of Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) Khazar Hayat Khan has started to take action against corruption, nepotism. On the other hand corruption in the OPF housing society and appointment of corrupt officials in housing projects, and recruitment of foreigners in the Workers Welfare Fund (WWF) KP has also given rise to the new scandal. He added that their scrutiny was imminent under National Action Plan (NAP) because it was expressing fear that individuals those were recruited in WWF are likely to be the Afghan national. Now when the corruption worth billions of rupees had revealed in WWF Islamabad chapter, the NAB has also adopted the way of plea-bargain or showed negligence, which is a matter of concern for secretary OPF ministry and NAB. He demanded that accountability of existing Secretary WWF is necessary, as he knows that files have been stolen and CCTV footage has also come out. Despite these facts, it is a matter of grave concern not to take any action and to backup the accused allegedly involved in it.
