KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Tuesday visited the family of popular qawwal Amjad Sabri, who was gunned down in Liquatabad area on June 22, and offered prayer for the departed soul. Amjad Sabri, 40, was shot by unidentified gunmen, who opened fire on his car, critically injuring him in the process. The gun wounds proved fatal and Sabri was declared dead upon arrival in the hospital. Born to a family of qawwals, Amjad Sabri was the son of qawwali legend Ghulam Farid Sabri. The latter along with his brother Maqbool Ahmed Sabriwas a popular duo of qawwals in the ‘60s and ‘70s. Sabri’s death has led to security fears among the artist community. Several celebrities have demanded more security measures in the wake of June 22’s incident. Others, however, are against such security measures.
