‘Imran Khan has insulted Chitral’s people’

PESHAWAR: Former MNA and central Majlis Shura member Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Mulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali expressed anger over the statement of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan regarding the convention of a donor conference for the restoration of Chitral flood affected infrastructure. He said there was an marked difference between the act and deeds of PTI chairman and provincial government.

Addressing a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Thursday, he said that floods last year had greatly damaged the infrastructure of Bamburiat, Baroz, Garam Chashmah, Tor Kahoo and Sheshi Koh, a problem the KP government had completely neglected. He said that after the flood in Chitral, Imran Khan’s provincial government had claimed that they had the resources to rebuild and would not appeal to foreign countries or donor agencies for the restoration of the flood affected areas. But now the PTI chief had convened a donor conference, which was an insult to the Chitrali people. “Chitral is the worst-affected district but despite this fact, in the fiscal year 2016-17 it was totally ignored, which was an open violation of basic human rights and very condemnable” said Mr Chitrali.

He added that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Parvaiz Khattak extravagantly spent the province resources’ for his home town Nowshera and Swabi, while almost Rs 25 billion had been spent on his native town so far, but for the restoration of Chitral’s infrastructure they were in favour of convening a donor conference. He maintained that negligence of the Chitral district in the current FY was an open proof of the failure of elected Members of National Assembly (MNAs) and Members of Provincial Assembly (MPAs) from the concerned areas. He said that Chitrali people would take revenge from the PTI in the 2018 general elections and would totally neglect the party.
