Robbery at MNA’s flat makes mockery of security claims

Published on: July 4, 2016 11:02 PM

ISLAMABAD: The robbery incident in a high profile area of the federal capital two days after the issuance of directives by the federal police to the citizens for making arrangements of the safety and security of their homes during Eid holidays on their own has sent a categorical message of zero security to the PM’s House, the Aiwan-e-Sadr, the parliament , the ministers and others.

Banditry in the lodges of Talal Chaudhry MNA, is a direct threat to the PM’s House as the said law maker was performing the duty as spokesperson of Maryam Nawaz daughter of Nawaz Sharif. Unknown robbers succeeded in decamping with jewellery worth millions of rupees and other valuables looted from flat No J-302 located in a high profile area of the parliament lodges in the jurisdiction of the Secretariat Police on Monday. The lodges stand at a distance of a few hundred yards from the PM’s House by the side of the Parliament House and close to the Aiwan-e- Sadr.

According to police and Talal Chaudhry unknown robbers had made off with cash, jewellery, wrist watches and dollars. An investigation is under way.

According to Talal Chaudhry he was in Faisalabad in connection with Eid and 3000 dollars, jewellery and precious watches of his wife were kept at his flat. It is premature to say the quantum of theft as the police is reviewing the incident and it is hoped the robbers will be arrested with the help of CCTV cameras.

According to the Secretariat Police the location of theft has been reviewed. Unless the list of stolen things is provided by Talal Chaudhry, a case cannot be registered.

However the police has worked out a detailed list on its own which will prove helpful after registration of the case. The police said the MNA had not informed about how much cash amount had been stolen. The investigation process would be started as soon as the complete and precise information of stolen goods was received.

It is the first time in the history of Islamabad that announcements were made at mosques that owners should make security arrangements of their houses on their own during Eid holidays and the police would not be responsible for any incident of theft or robbery.

It is ironical to note that an institution of the country which swears to protect the life and property of the citizens and is paid from the hard earned money of the public does not to perform its duty. How can the federal police which cannot protect flat of an MNA protect the life and property of the citizens of Islamabad?

The thieves have in fact challenged Maryam Nawaz by targeting Talal Chaudhry’s flat. The PM’s House is not far off and such an incident can take place there as well.

Murad Saeed , a PTI MNA said that this was the difference between false propaganda and reality. The PML-N had made the entire country a paradise in its publicity campaign but its own home was not secure from thieves.

The Choto gang reached the Parliament House from Rajan Pur during the PML-N led government and it is a worry of the PML-N government that the thieves are taking refuge in the residences meant for members of the parliament.

Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali claims of transforming the entire Islamabad into a safe city but the situation is otherwise as the parliament lodges are not immune from thieves.
