MITHI: The people from all walks of life mourned the demise of great philanthropist and social worker Abdul Sattar Edhi on Saturday. The members of the civil society in Sindh mourned the departure of the great social worker and paid homage to him. The people of district Tharparkar paid rich tribute to the late Sattar Edhi who rendered his services to the benefit the masses. Mama Vishan Thari, a social worker and popularly known as ‘Edhi of Tharparkar’ while talking to Daily Times said that Edhi was the man of his time and people like him are seldom born. While arranging prayer ceremony in the honour of the man with great stature, he said that Edhi was like their father and he was very well versed with him. He said that following the footprint of Edhi, he also joined social work and even served at Edhi Foundation. He said, “Edhi also established a blood bank in Tharparkar in 1990s in order to render blood service to the people of the deprived district and to save them from the agony of travelling to collect blood from other cities.” While recalling the past memory and several meetings with Abdul Sattar Edhi, Mama Vishan said that since 1990s, he had telephonic connections with Edhi, even in the late nights and discussed matters of social work and especially in the time of need. Another social worker from Tharparkar, Rajesh Soni, said that persons like Abdul Sattar Edhi are not born every now and then. He said that he wished to meet Edhi and in this regard he along with Mama visited the ailing Edhi in Karachi few days ago but due to his conditions and medical complexities, the doctors refused to grant permission for meeting. He said, “I think it is the regret to me all the time to come.”
