ISLAMABAD: The federal capital witnessed an unprecedented surge in theft and robbery incidents during Eid holidays because of the massive departure of citizens to their native towns to celebrate Eid with their near and dear ones.
According to information received by Daily Times, seven incidents of banditry, 31 robberies and 19 theft incidents took place during the three days of Eid ul Fitr.
Police however took action against those found involved in one wheeling. Police sources said the residents of Islamabad had left for their native towns on the eve of Eidul Fitr due to which 19 incidents of theft occurred.
The citizens were deprived of vehicles, valuables, cash and mobile phones. 31 incidents of robbery took place while seven fire incidents were reported but there was no loss of life. As many as 182 persons were injured in traffic incidents. The holidays of the policemen were cancelled. But no action was taken by the police except registering cases and locking up motorcycles for one wheeling.
Police had evolved a security programme for the federal capital on Chand Raat and Eid. As many as 3500 police officers and police men and 43 vehicles of SAF city were made part of this programme. Twenty vehicles were detailed for operational duty and 17 were placed at the disposal of traffic police to ensure smooth flow of traffic. Two vehicles were allocated for ladies police. These were detailed for duty in key business centres including F-6 Super Market, Jinnah Super Market, Abpara Market, Karachi Company, F-10, F-11 Markaz, I-10, Blue Area, Faisal Mosque, important high ways, Murree Road, Expressway and Faizabad.
