2,369 POs still at large in capital

Published on: July 28, 2016 12:41 AM

ISLAMABAD: In spite of strict instructions by Ministry of Interior Islamabad Police have failed to apprehend some 2,369 proclaimed offenders involved in murder, attempt to murder, dacoity, snatching and other crimes.

Police have swallowed hefty budget of more than Rs 6 million which was allocated for arrest of the proclaimed offenders but gripped only 1919 out of total 5188 Pos even after passage of four months, on which interior ministry has called for the detailed report from IG of Capital Territory Police.

Islamabad Police have arrested 139 proclaimed offenders involved in murder out of total 523 POs, whereas the 55 people were taken into custody on the charges of attempt to murder out of total 119 proclaimed offenders during last four months.

Similarly out of 142 absconders involved in kidnapping and rape, police could arrest only 106 POs. Likewise police succeeded in nabbing 149 fugitives wanted to police for robbery and snatching out of 380 proclaimed offenders. At the same time Islamabad Police also arrested 118 wrongdoers involved in theft out of 297 POs.

The failure of police move in catching the thousands of outrageous escapees has put a big question mark on the performance of Islamabad police, which is recognized as a model police throughout the country. Due to the fact that POs are still at large on large scale, the rate of crime has been enhanced manifold in the capital and the citizens are feeling insecurity.
