KARACHI: Sindh and Punjab provinces are paying more amount for the purchase of natural gas used for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations in country’s Zone-B as compared with Zone-A, under Gross Prolific Value (GPV) for last four months, it is reliably learnt. Both gas utilities, Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited and Sui Southern Gas Company are charging more per MMBTU under tariff from CNG stations in Zone-B as compared with Zone-A, a close source told Daily Times on Friday. “Zone-A comprised of KPK, Phothohar and Balochistan are receiving 1100 GPV after opting for Re-gasification Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG). The Zone-B comprised of Punjab and Sindh provinces is receiving 1040 to 1100 under indigenous gas source instead of 950 GPV” the sources said. “As per the formula set by Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), the GPV was set at 950 per British Thermal Unit per Cubic Feet (BTUCF), but in Zone-B, the Punjab and Sindh was receiving between 1040 to 1100 GPV,” the source said, adding it is fluctuating in different parts of the Zone-B but remained on the higher side of prescribed tariff formula. Zone-B is paying about Rs4 per MMBTU extra as compared with Zone-A and extra Sales Tax of 17 percent, the source said. On the other hand, Zone-A is paying only 5 percent of Sales Tax on Re-gasification Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) with, the source pointed out. “The extra amount issue was raised and discussed with the authority (OGRA), and the issue would likely to be settled in the coming days. It is burdening the CNG stations,” the source informed. The CNG stations also asked the federal government for the RLNG. In this regard, a petition would be filed to OGRA for RLNG and it is up to the authority to forward our petition to the federal government for further decision. masroor afzal pasha
