Kaira criticises govt’s move to open businesses amid Covid-19 spike

PPP Punjab President Qamar Zaman Kaira on Tuesday criticised the decision of opening the businesses at a time when the cases of corona virus are on the rise in Pakistan. He said that the situation is going to be worst the way the lockdown is lifted as the federal minister for Science and Technology is himself claiming that the virus will spread rapidly. The PPP leader was addressing a press conference at party’s office in Model Town Lahore on Tuesday. According to Kaira, the government is asking the people to stay at home by lifting the lockdown and opening the markets and businesses. “The trains and other transport are open now and the Covid-19 positive patients were in hundreds earlier but now they are in thousands on daily basis,” said PPP Punjab President.

Talking about the ongoing tussle between Sindh and federal government, Kaira said that the PTI is attacking the Sindh on the behest of federal government and there are also rumours of imposing the Governor’s rule there. He dared the government to fulfil its wish of imposing Governor Rule in Sindh and get ready to face the consequences. “The NFC award and 18th amendment helped strengthening the federation while the movements of separation were weakened after it. The federation is much stronger now after distributing the powers and resources,” said PPP leader. We lost half the country by not fulfilling the promises made with provinces in 1971, he added. He was of the view that the share of provinces can be increased in the NFC but it cannot be decreased at any cost and we’ll resist any move to decrease the resources of provinces in the NFC.

The PPP Punjab President further added that there is nothing wrong in demanding the ouster of the government keeping in view the prevailing situation in the country. “It is not undemocratic to demand new elections. We don’t left with any other option except to hold new elections or in-house change if the government fails this way,” said Kaira, while supporting the demand of new elections in the country. The government can gauge its popularity by holding only the local government elections in the country, he said. “We respect the judiciary but it should not interfere in the executive affairs,” said Kaira in a reference to the apex court’s decision to lift the lockdown in the shopping plazas and commercial markets. PPP Punjab General Secretary Ch Manzoor, Aslam Gill and other PPP leaders were also present on the occasion.
