Seminary sealed as cleric, family test positive for COVID-19

The Islamabad Capital Administration (ICT) on Wednesday sealed a religious seminary after its cleric and his family tested positive for coronavirus.

The Deputy Commissioner (DC)Hamza Shafqaat confirmed the move. The seminary Bab-ul-Islam located in F-7 Markaz sealed over when its cleric found positive coronavirus.

Shafqaat said that cleric’s father had died of coronavirus some days ago. After his burial, he added, when we conducted cleric’s coronavirus test he found positive. “In this backdrop the all cleric family’s test conducted and seven family members were tested positive for coronavirus due to which we temporarily sealed the mosque-cum-seminary”, he claimed.

The DC further said they would be kept in quarantine within that seminary, adding that all other investigation related to this is being carried out to avert other people from infection.

When asked, Shafqaat, however did not disclose any timeframe regarding closure of the seminary. “It was sealed provisionally”, he merely said.

According to the official statistics of the government, currently there are total 10072 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the country out of them 2156 patients recovered after treatment while 212 could not survive and passed away. Currently, 3373 cases found in Sindh, 4331 in Punjab, 495 in Balochistan, 1395 in KPK, 194 in ICT, 283 in GB and 51 in AJK.

Separately, a superstore on Karachi’s University Road was closed on Wednesday after one of its employees tested positive for coronavirus.

In a post on Facebook, the chain announced that its Safari store branch will be closed from today till further notice.
