ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Industrial Area Police Station have registered a first information report (FIR) against the owner of a medicine distribution company, ‘Slicker Marketing Services’, for forgery and fraud. The company was allegedly involved in the manufacturing of fake medicines and thus playing with the lives of patients with the support of a prominent doctor of Shifa International Hospital, Islamabad. The complainant, Muhammad Nadeem, had stated in his FIR that he suffered from a disease of dizziness in 2010 and he approached the Doctor, Nasir Khokhar, at Shifa Hospital Islamabad, who suggested Melto-B an American medicine for him. The doctor asked him that this medicine was only available in Shifa Hospital’s pharmacy and not in the open market,adding that he keep buying this medicine for one year from the same pharmacy. Later, he said, his disease became more complicated. Following this, he personally probed the matter and found that accused Ejaz Mehmood, the owner of Slicker Marketing Services, was the distributor of the said medicine who claimedthat he was the representative of a Karachi based medicine company MPC Health & Food. However, when he approached the said company denied the representation of the accused and informed that it was neither importing such a medicine nor had issued any authority letter to any company for distribution. The complainant said the said medicine Melto-B was prepared by the accused and was being supplied to Shifa Hospital pharmacy with the connivance of Doctor Nasir Khokhar who used to prescribe the same medicine to his patients for his own interest. He said the company had committed forgery for preparing fake documents, medicine, its packing and giving wrong address details and playing with the lives of people. When contacted the investigation officer of the said case, Sub-Inspector Ashiq Shah, said that the accused Ejaz Mehood had been arrested under an FIR registered against him under section 420, 468/471 for preparing fake documents. He said the matter regarding the fake medicine came under the Drugs Regulatory Authority. He said the Karachi based medicine company had informed in writing that it had not issued any such authority letter to Slicker Marketing Company. It may be mentioned here that the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) was also investigating against the same company.
