LAHORE: Accusing Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif-led government of forcing the country into bankruptcy, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Saturday said his party would not rest until the premier was held accountable for his wrongdoings. Addressing the participants of the “accountability rally” at Charing Cross, he demanded the premier to respond to corruption allegations within 10 days, otherwise they would march towards Raiwind after Eid. He also asked the Supreme Court to put Nawaz Sharif’s name on the Exit Control List (ECL) to ensure he remains present in the country. Earlier, addressing party workers at Shahdara, Imran said, “If they [rulers] steal public money, they are accountable [for their actions]… The entire country must come out and seek answers from the Sharif family.” Talking about the significance of the rally, Imran said that it would exert massive pressure on different state institutions, compelling them to expose the PM’s corruption. “We had been seeking clarifications for the past five months from Nawaz Sharif and his family over the allegations mentioned in the Panama Papers, but no one was serious… We also knocked the doors of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and other institutions during this period, but no one responded,” he said. On the FBR sending notices to the people highlighted in the Panama Papers, PTI chairman said congratulated his supporters and participants of rally, and said that it was the PTI’s pressure that led the revenue authority to send notices to all the accused, including the Sharifs. He said that all major institutions, including the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), FBR and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) were trying to save the Sharif family, so all of them “have lost their credibility”.
