ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday challenged the objections of the Supreme Court (SC) registrar pertaining to the return of a constitutional petition seeking disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif over alleged corruption and tax evasion through offshore companies.
On August 30, the SC registrar had declared the constitutional petition as frivolous and non-maintainable on the grounds that the petition does not fall into the ambit of public importance and the party had not approached the appropriate forum.
However, PTI chief Imran Khan invoked a Civil Miscellaneous Appeal (CMA) under Order V of Rule 3 read with Order XXXIII, Rule 6 of the Supreme Court Rules 1980 against the objections. The CMA filed by Khan’s legal team headed by Advocate Hamid Khan makes the prime minister, his daughter Maryam Safdar, his sons Hassan and Hussain Nawaz, his son-in-law Captain (r) Muhammad Safdar, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Ministry, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) respondents.
The CMA stated that no specific instance is pointed out regarding the so-called frivolous content in the order of the registrar.
