15th Cholistan Desert Rally begins on Feb 13

The 15th Cholistan Desert Rally will start in Cholistan from February 13 and continue until February 16. The event will consist of cultural performances by local artistes, fireworks, overnight stays in secured desert camps and camel and a jeep safari. The route of rally is approximately 464 kilometres and there are almost seven forts on the route. The rally has become an identity of the area and approximately 500,000 to 600,000 tourists from all over the country visit Cholistan for the event. The event had put a positive impact on the economic condition of the people of the area. For the successful holding of this mega event, a high level meeting was convened to finalize the arrangements which was held in Bahawalpur, Commissioner Asif Iqbal Choudhery directed all officials concerned of TDCP and administrative officers of Divisional Administration to give a final shape to all the arrangements to hold this highly significant sports and cultural event in a befitting manner. He also directed for arranging special sports and cultural events on the occasion to promote Cholistani culture and traditions. The TDCP started the Cholistan Jeep Rally event in the majestic desert of Cholistan during 2005 with a view to promote southern Punjab as a winter tourist destination and to promote motor sports in Pakistan.
