LAHORE: Samjhota Express left for New Delhi from Lahore after Indian authorities allowed the operation on Monday after refusing to permit the train operation due to probable security threat because of the ongoing protests in Amritsar. Samjhota Express train service left here Monday morning for India carrying 138 passengers under strict security arrangements. The train will leave for New Delhi after custom and immigration clearance at Wagah border. Earlier, the Indian Railways sent a fax to the Pakistan Railways Headquarters stating that the Samjhota Express won’t be able to operate on Monday, either from Pakistan to India or from India to Pakistan as per its regular schedule. The fax cited security issues due to protests in Amritsar as the reason. However, in a second fax that was received at around 9:20pm PST, the Indian Railways allowed the train operations and was convinced that the situation was under control and the train operation won’t be sabotaged due to the social unrest in Amritsar.
