Actress Saba Qamar, who wrapped up shooting of Sarmad Khoosat’s directorial film ‘Kamli,’ has signed another film.
According to a Pakistani cinema web portal, the Hindi Medium actress will be in the lead role opposite Syed Jibran, who will be making his film debut with this movie.
The film will be produced jointly by Jameel Baig and Hasan Zia under the banners of Jameel Baig Films and Mastermind Production.
However, the name and story of the film written by Mohsin Ali is yet to be released.
Saba Qamar was last seen on the big screen in Pakistan in Lahore Se Aagey. The actress next movie Kamli is expected to be released on Eid 2020.
Sabahat Qamar Zaman, known professionally as Saba Qamar, is a Pakistani actress and television presenter. One of Pakistan’s most popular and highest-paid celebrities, Qamar is the recipient of several accolades, including four Lux Style Awards, a Hum Award, and a Filmfare Award nomination. The Government of Pakistan honoured her with two of the country’s highest civilian honours, the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz in 2012, and Pride of Performance in 2016.
After making her acting debut in 2005 with the television series Mein Aurat Hoon, Qamar garnered praise for her role of Fatima Jinnah in the historical drama Jinnah Ke Naam (2007). This was followed by a series of roles which led to a setback in her career. The 2010 pre-partition drama Dastaan marked a turning point in her career, earning her the Pakistan Media Award for Best Supporting Actress, and starring roles in the drama Pani Jaisa Piyar and the socio drama Thakan (both 2011), established her as a leading actress in Urdu television. She went on to receive wide critical praise for her portrayal of a struggling women in the 2010 melodrama Uraan, a manipulative and self-obsessed women in the 2011 romance Maat, a middle class women in the 2011 drama Jo Chale To Jaan Se Guzar Gaye, a struggling wife in the romance Yahan Pyar Nahin Hai, a caregiver in the 2013 thriller Sannata, a woman troubled by her family in the 2013 revenge drama Ullu Baraye Farokht Nahi, a headstrong women in the 2013 romantic drama Bunty I Love You, a struggling writer in the 2014 family drama Digest Writer, a rape victim in the 2015 romance Sangat, an actress and a fashion model in the 2016 dramas Mein Sitara and Besharam, gaining her several Best Actress awards and nominations for each of them. Qamar continued to draw praise for portraying Fouzia Azeem and Noor Jehan in the 2017 biographical dramas Baaghi and Main Manto, and a lawyer in the 2019 courtroom drama Cheekh. Her performance in the first of these earned her the Lux Style Award for Best Television Actress.
Qamar’s first appearance in film came with the critically acclaimed Sarmad Khoosat-directed biogiographical film Manto (2015), and had her first commercial success with the 2016 romantic comedy Lahore Se Aagey. Qamar subsequently received critical acclaim for her portrayal of a nouveau riche in her first Hindi film, the comedy drama Hindi Medium, which earned her the Filmfare Best Actress Award nomination, and ranks among the highest-grossing Indian films of all time. She went on to star in the 2018 romantic television films Moomal Rano and Dil Diyan Gallan. Besides acting, she worked as a host and comedian on the political satire Hum Sab Umeed Se Hain.
