QUETTA: The detained four Balachi women got released from Khuzdar jail on Tuesday after government confronted harsh criticism from the right wings of Balochistan.

The four women were booked by police on November 29, then a day later were presented to media at the jail demonstrating weapons along with them.

After breaking the news then, different schools of thought including lawyers beside political parties recorded their protest and had been urged the government to free the women as it goes against the norms of Balochistan.

“Women are highly respected in our ethnicity this act is against all norms and values” Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) acting president Abdul Wali Kakar had argued at a press conference.

Subsequently, on December 5, Sardar Akhtar Mengal of BNP-M, a government ally, warned to quit the coalition and would never come to the National assembly if the arrested women won’t be released, before the walkout, Mengal staged a sit-in in front of the speaker’s dais that led to summon the Interior minister by Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri to resolve the issue.

“What message will the arrest of these women send to people.., Neither did the previous government wish to take Balochistan forward with them, nor does this government,?” Akhtar Mengal had implored in NA.

Meanwhile, the news of the release was confirmed by Khuzdar jail, later the chairman of BNP-M also made confirmation — he tweeted “it’s my duty”
