RAWALPINDI: Punjab Governor Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana on Monday said that boosting trade activities in Rawalpindi was among government’s top priorities.
He said that his office would provide maximum support and resources for the construction of a bypass road and for the establishment of an information technology park in the city.
He exchanged these views with a delegation of the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) led by its President Raja Amer Iqbal at the Governor House on Monday. RCCI Senior Vice President Rashid Waien, group leaders Sheikh Shabir, Sohail Altaf, SM Naseem, RCCI former president Mian Humayun Parvez and RCCI Executive Committee Member Younas Daar were part of the delegation.
The governor said that government wants to make Rawalpindi the most developed city of the country, adding that the procedure to establish the IT Park would start soon. The RCCI was playing a key role in uplifting the national economy within and outside of the country; he said. The government appreciates the single country expos initiative started by the RCCI and would extend full support in this regard, he added.
While speaking on the occasion, RCCI President Raja Amer Iqbal said that Rawalpindi was a developing industrial city and was being used by China, Afghanistan, Kashmir and Central Asian countries as a trading corridor
He said that the business community of the city was playing a vital role in eliminating unemployment from the country, adding that the government should involve the traders, business community and chamber of commerce’s opinion, when devising development projects and economic policies. The RCCI president urged the government for tax reforms, broadening the tax net and removing tax impediments for boosting exports and trade activities in the country.
